LA3:Know about research methods
Primary Research
Primary research is research that is yet to exist. Another name for this type of research is "field research", as it is information you collect yourself. Some examples of primary/field research are: Surveys, Interviews, Observation etc. This type of research can be UPG(Unverified Personal Gnosis) and also SPG (Shared Personal Gnosis)-with surveys.
Secondary Research
Secondary research is research that already exists. Another name for this type of research is "desk research", as it is information that already exists so you don't need to collect it yourself. This way of research is to learn from information that is already there Some examples of secondary/desk research are: Using Google, Books, Articles etc. This type of research can be SPG (Shared Personal Gnosis) and Historical, proven facts.
Qualitative Research
Qualitative research is research that doesn't involve numbers. It involves collecting and analysing non-numerical data, either through secondary OR primary research. This way of research is to understand concepts, opinions or experiences and more in-depth than quantitive research. Some examples are: Audio, Text, video etc. A more in depth example is: "One of the main reasons people like horror movies is because of adrenaline rush"
Quantitive Research
Quantitive research is research that involves numbers. It involves collecting and analysing numerical data, either through secondary OR primary research.This way of research is to find patterns and averages. Some examples are: Percentages, Fractions etc. A more in depth example is: "7 out of 10 people (or 70%) who took the survey prefer horror films over romcoms"
